Campaigns

Adding a Campaign

  1. Select “Add Campaign”
  2. The “Campaign Name” will be the key value used to target ads.
  3. “List Type” will also be passed as a key value to target ads.
  4. “Keywords” is the list of word and phrases Safetag will find in posts per each Campaign. Users can manually enter or upload a CSV or Excel file.
  5. “Status” will turn the Campaign On or Off.
  6. Hit “Save” to create the Campaign.

On “Save”, Safetag will scan all post types. This can take a significant amount of time based on number of posts, content length and number of Campaign Keywords. You can review the progress on the Settings tab.

Editing a Campaign
Once a Campaign has been created you can change the Status to “Off” to pause, or stop, passing the key values. This allows you to keep viewing reports. You can Delete a Campaign but you will lose any reporting so it’s best to simply turn it off.

Reports

By default the Report view will “Show Matched Terms Only”. To see Terms that have no matches, change to “No”.

Users can download a CSV of the list view with the Term, number of posts and percentage.

Select “View Posts” to see the list of Posts that match a Term.

Exclude
The pie chart shows the number of Total Posts the will be Excluded (red) versus the available or “Safe” (green) content. If Posts are in the process of scanning those will show in black.

Include
The pie chart shows the number of Total Posts that are Included (green) versus the non-matched (blue) content. If Posts are in the process of scanning those will show in black.

Post List
Each Term has a list of Posts that shows the Post Title and Date. Users can View the Post in a new window.

Users can download a CSV of the list view with the Title and Date for each Term.

IAB Audience Tags

Audience tags are used to help identify the site’s general audience. These tags will be passed on every Post for ad targeting. Users can select multiple Tags, but it should be kept to a narrow set. These are the list of available Tags from IAB:

Exposing tags

By default, after installation, Safetag exposes the following KVP for page level targeting.

In a headless setup, you can export tags using the REST API. (‘yourdomain/wp-json/safetag-api/v1/post-campaign/post_id’).

Note: This URL needs to be secured.

Targeting in GAM

Once you create a “Campaign” in SafeTag with the list of all key words the buyer provided, the next step would be to target your Google Ad Manager line item(s) to or away from it. For that purpose, SafeTag is passing specific key values to your Google Ad Manager ad calls.

The key would be either safetag_include_list or safetag_exclude_list (depending on if campaign is created as inclusion or exclusion list) while the value would be a SafeTag campaign name. Please note that both of these keys and all of their values would have to be created manually in GAM under Inventory -> Key-values section in order to be able to use them for targeting.

For example:
Let’s say you created a campaign (inclusion list) in SafeTag called “buyer1” and you want to target your GAM line item(s) only to articles containing one of the key words from the list included in that campaign. The correct way to target it in GAM would be:
safetag_include_list is any of buyer1
